Third Metric: Recommended Reading For The Huffington Post's Women's Conference

Recommended Reading For The Third Metric Conference

At a time when stress levels in the workplace are higher than ever before and young people are coming of age as America's "most stressed generation," we need a new way to define success beyond the two standard metrics of wealth and power. To define a new "third metric" of success, leaders from the business world and beyond will gather for "The Third Metric: Redefining Success Beyond Money And Power," The Huffington Post's first-ever women's conference, hosted by Arianna Huffington and Mika Brzezinski, on June 6, 2013.

"Right now, the two metrics of success that drive the American workplace are money and power, but by themselves, they make a two-legged stool -- fine for balancing on for a short time, but after a while, you're headed for a fall," Arianna Huffington, president and editor-in-chief of the Huffington Post Media Group, wrote in a recent blog post. "And guided by this limited definition of success, more and more "successful" people are falling. So what we need is a more humane and sustainable definition of success that includes well-being, wisdom, wonder, empathy, and the ability to give back."
