Controversies aside, Donald Trump’s inauguration is slated to be a well-attended affair. However, a growing number of Democratic politicians are boycotting the event, as is this ball of yarn. Unlike Representatives John Lewis, Mark Takano, Yvette Clarke and a handful of others, this ball of yarn has not made a public statement regarding its decision, but it has fallen from the couch to the floor.

Some of the aforementioned lawmakers have stated they will be protesting in Washington, DC and others their respective districts. It is likely the ball of yarn will stay in the living room.

California Rep. Barbara Lee stated on Thursday, “Donald Trump has proven that his administration will normalize the most extreme fringes of the Republican Party. On Inauguration Day, I will not be celebrating. I will be organizing and preparing for resistance.” Oregon Rep. Earl Blumenauer also weighed in with a Facebook post, “There is unprecedented concern by my constituents about the many threats posed by a Trump administration seeking to implement the President-elect’s policies on health, environment, nuclear weapons and immigration, to name but a few.”

While the ball of yarn has not been an especially vocal critic of Trump, it is blue. This ball of yarn was in the room for Obama’s 2008 and 2012 inaugural ceremonies. No word on whether it plans to be made into a hat or scarf.

There will definitely be a lack of nonpartisan solidarity on January 20th, but hopefully that will not set the policymaking precedent for the next four years. While Trump is being sworn in, other lawmakers will be making their own political stands. This ball of yarn will likely be in the dog’s mouth.
