This Beautiful Gay Navy Kiss Just Made History

"I am speechless."

A Canadian sailor and his boyfriend made history this week when the pair shared a romantic kiss after the Master Seaman's long deployment at sea.

The ceremonial first kiss shared between a sailor and their partner after returning from active duty is decided by a raffle and, as The CBC noted, this is the first time in the Canadian Navy's history that the kiss has been between two men.

“I just bought a [raffle] ticket because all the money goes to charity, I wasn’t thinking I was going to win,” said Master Seaman Francis Legare, who greeted his partner, Corey Vautour, after being aboard HMCS Winnipeg for 255 days. "I am speechless."

The American Navy celebrated its own historic gay kiss moment in 2015, with Petty Officer 2nd Class Thomas Sawicki and his boyfriend, Shawn Brier, becoming the first men to share the kiss after a long deployment. Two women, Petty Officer 2nd Class Marissa Gaeta and her girlfriend, became the first queer women to share traditional kiss in 2011.

Congratulations, gentlemen!
