This Comic Beautifully Captures The Sad Reality Of Breaking Up

Sometimes a split is painful but necessary.

Deciding to leave a relationship when you've been together for years is unbelievably difficult. And even after you've made the decision to split, it's heartbreaking -- and frankly, exhausting -- to untangle your two lives.

The comic below -- adapted from journalist Sarah Mirk's 2014 book Sex from Scratch: Making Your Own Relationship Rules and illustrated by Ryan Alexander-Tanner -- speaks to how difficult it is leave a marriage or relationship while outlining how to do so. (Don't forget to map out the logistics, Mirk writes at one point: Where are you going to live in the next few weeks, have you saved up money to be on your own?)

Mirk, an online editor at Bitch Media, told The Huffington Post she included the comic in Sex From Scratch so that readers had relatable, actionable advice to follow when ending things with their partners.

"Breaking up sucks, even when it's clearly the right thing to do," she told The Huffington Post. "I made this comic because I wanted to have a helpful guide to hand to friends who are about to split up."
