Matt Yglesias points his readers to the website of the Senate Finance Committee, as an example of just how spectacularly behind the curve the federal government is in terms of technology. On that site's sidebar, you will find this notice:
This site is optimized for Netscape Navigator 4.x or Internet Explorer 4.x, with an 800x600 screen resolution. Some links on this site also require the use of Adobe Acrobat Reader, and Real Audio. To download the latest version of any of these products, click on the links below.
Optimized for Netscape Navigator? Don't you have to go to a museum, or a Hot Tub Time Machine, to use Netscape Navigator? It's no wonder that Max Baucus and Charles Grassley take decades to get anything done!
Do not follow the link, by the way. The first time I did, it immediately crashed Firefox, and it took three tries to get it to load the picture of Max Baucus and Charles Grassley, in which they are depicted having a discussion about which abacus they will use to mark up the health care reform bill.
