While waiting for his big brother at the bus stop yesterday, I noticed that my 3-year-old was hopping up and down around our driveway, like a Superball down a linoleum hallway. I couldn't quite put my finger on what had him "boing-ing" with such ferocity, until my oldest climbed off the bus and with a smile a mile-wide, immediately reminded me that I had promised we would bake Christmas cookies after school.

Oops.

Yeah, about that kids. Mommy actually forgot to make the dough that requires overnight refrigeration, so I know you're super excited and all, but I'm actually not going to be able to follow through with that promise - because, and you'll understand this when you're older, I have Mom Brain.

Is what I could've said. But, because Christmas miracles happen, I remembered that a while back I had shoved some Organic sugar cookie dough in the freezer (probably so I wouldn't be tempted to eat it straight out of the package...) and low and behold - BOOM. I'm an awesome mom who totally pulls through for her kids and makes Christmas cookies when she says she's going to make Christmas cookies!

So we set to making our first batch of Christmas cookies for the holiday season, because what is Christmas without the huge floury mess of rolling and cutting out sugar cookies to decorate? Of course, before we could get started I tuned to our requisite Bing Crosby Spotify channel and lit several "winter spruce" scented candles.

You know, for ambiance.

But guys, while I was kind-of/sort-of dreading this activity (only because it makes the world's biggest mess all over our dining room table) - I had a totally brilliant plan.

After we'd mixed up the sugar cookie dough and were waiting for it to chill, I grabbed an old, cotton, fitted sheet, threw it on our dining room table, covered it in flour and KAPOW - a totally perfect surface for rolling and cutting out cookie dough, with basically zero mess!

So, if you're keeping track, that's two boys, one gigantic batch of Christmas cookies and almost no clean up time. I've never felt like a more competent boy mom in my whole entire life.
