With its towering sandstone arches, out-of-this-world views, and miles of rugged landscape, Arches and Canyonlands are like no other places on Earth. But when the sun goes down, that's when the real show starts. This timelapse video shows you why these National Parks are a stargazer's dream come true.

Arches features over two thousand naturally formed sandstone arches, the product of salt left over from a sea that dried up some 300 million years ago. The stunning formations still capture the imaginations of visitors the same way they did for the first American settlers to stumble upon their imposing beauty.

Today the parks draw thousands of campers, backpackers, and sightseers, but the location has also become a hotspot for astronomy buffs to take advantage of the breathtaking celestial scenes offered by the area's crystal clear night sky.

Unfortunately, the gorgeous views of the stars might not last as long as the famous arches have; ever-growing light pollution from nearby towns like Moab threaten the untainted stargazing provided by the parks. Every year, some stars disappear from view. If you've ever wanted to experience the brilliance of the night sky from one of America's most treasured locations, you'd better do it soon.
