This Week in Terrible Television: Tough Guys Edition

This Week in Terrible Television: Tough Guys Edition

It's time for another installment of This Week in Terrible Television and we have a testosterone packed edition for you today.

NBC debuted "Phenomenon" this week, a reality competition that will search for the "next great mentalist". I don't know if Jim Karol, self-described "Psychic Madman", is worthy of this arbitrary title, but he certainly knows how to make awkward television. In the following clip Karol gets (forces) some help for his stunt from former "Tonight Show" intern Ross Mathews. If the trick doesn't blow your mind, the juxtaposition of these two guys will. From NBC 10/24/07.

The Pumphrey Brothers, stars of the National Geographic Channel's "Super Strength", gave the "Today" audience a lesson in manly man activities like smashing stuff with your body. They had the title for toughest guys on television clinched until the very end, when one half of the super-sized duo yelped like a small dog and made some sort of weird cheerleader move. Dude, next time take a lesson from your bro and keep the celebration action to a masculine elbow slap. From NBC 10/22/07.

A reformed tough guy was on "The 700 Club" this week to tell his harrowing tale of drunken nights and bar fights. If the late night rumbles were as brutal as the one depicted in the reenactment below, it's a wonder this man survived at all. From CBN via ABC Family 10/23/07.

MTV's "A Shot at Love with Tila Tequila" continues to produce wonderfully awful television moments. In the clip below, some girl dares some guy to kiss some other guy. Guy #1 is more than happy to fulfill his dare, but Guy #2 is so not cool with it. And if there's one thing he wants to make clear, it's that he does not like being kissed by another guy. Really. He's 100% straight. So straight he had to wipe off the man residue from his recently kissed lips. For reals, you guys. He's so not gay. Where have I seen this before? From MTV 10/23/07.

MTV dating shows are so fake I'm almost willing to believe these contestants were tough guys in real life before MTV producers offered them camera time. This clip doesn't feature anything shocking or new, same old over-the-top sexual innuendos as is always expected from MTV's "Next". But put that guy from "Tila Tequila" on the bus with these guys and then you have a show. From MTV 10/22/07.
