Young Son Of Fallen Soldier Asks World To Leave Porch Lights On So Father Knows He's Loved

One year after his soldier father's death, this boy wants his dad to know that the love he has for him is so strong, it could light up the sky.

On Sept. 26, 2013, U.S. Army Staff Sgt. Thomas Allen Baysore, Jr. of Clarksville, Tennessee, was killed in action in Afghanistan, the Clarksville Leaf-Chronicle reported. Before he died, Baysore would often tell his young son, Darren, "I love you to the moon and back."

On Friday -- the anniversary of his father's death -- 6-year-old Darren is determined to send his own love right to the moon, where he believes his dad is. To do so, he has been urging people through social media to turn on their porch lights on Friday night, so his father can see the light all the way up in the sky.

Earlier this month, Darren's family set up a Facebook page, Shining Love to Daddy Baysore, to spread the message. Darren is asking people from all over the world to post photos of their porch lights to the page on Friday. According to Today.com, people in countries as far away as China and Japan have gotten in touch to say they plan to show their support.

"Every porch light I show him a picture of, he knows that that person is thanking him for going through this rough time, for giving up his father," Jamie told Today.com "It lets him know that his daddy is their hero, too."

Darren has been trying to send love to his dad since the day he was told of his father's passing.

"When we received the news that Tom had died in Afghanistan, Darren turned the porch light on so his father could see it from the moon. That's where he believes his dad is," Jamie told the Leaf-Chronicle. "He wants Dad to know his son is sending his love."

While Darren has had a tough time coping with his father's death, the support he has received from the online community seems have given him and his mother a sense of comfort.
