#TalkToMe: 'Tiger Mom' Amy Chua Shares 3 Things She 'Learned The Hard Way'

The Yale law professor and author offered advice to her daughter.

Amy Chua is passing down some life lessons to her daughter after she had to learn them "the hard way."

In a video for HuffPost's parent-child interview series Talk To Me, the Yale law professor and author of the parenting memoir "Battle Hymn of the Tiger Mother" took questions from her daughter, Sophia Chua-Rubenfeld. Amy offered three pieces of advice, kicking off with a lesson in karma.

"Anything you say bad about somebody else will always come back," she told her daughter. "They will always hear about it, so just don't do it."

She went on to encourage her daughter to "rise above" jealousy and pettiness, which she described as "a total waste of time." With her last piece of advice, Chua promised that anyone who breaks her daughter's heart isn't good enough for her.

"You can always do way better," she said.

Chua also opened up about the lasting impacts of being raised by immigrant parents from Asia, and the discrimination she remembers them facing. In a sweet mother-daughter moment, Chua-Rubenfeld said she wasn't sure if she'd ever told her mom this, but she had "immense respect" for her.

"I think it's because you have so much strength and you found that strength in your family and in yourself," Sophia said. "I admire that."
