Rep. Tim Bishop (D-N.Y.) was defeated by state Sen. Lee Zeldin (R) in New York's first congressional district on Tuesday.

Bishop has represented his Long Island district since 2002, but the race was seen as a competitive one. Former president Bill Clinton traveled to the district to campaign for Bishop last month.
