Time to Let Them Kill Each Other

To all those republican pundits, and politicians who claim that if we leave Iraq it will become a bloodbath, I say this: If they want to kill each other... let them.

What I'm about to suggest here is repugnant, and beyond politically incorrect, but I'm going to suggest it anyway.

To all those republican pundits, and politicians who claim that if we leave Iraq it will become a bloodbath, I say this: If they want to kill each other... let them.

It's hilarious (in a Strangelove-ian kind of way) that the racist, lizard-brained Republican base that hates anyone not exactly like them and thinks we should drop a nuke on Iran, actually claims to give a shit if Iraq turns into a killing field. It's so contradictory to the core beliefs of "the Crazy 29" that it's an obviousl lie. A political position they've been forced to retreat to. The neocons last stand.

Meanwhile, more of our kids die serving as a buffer between two other groups of religious fanatics.

Putting aside the fact that the people claiming this bloodbath will happen have been right about exactly nothing since this epic misadventure began, let's give them the benefit of the doubt here. The fact is, the killing probably will get worse if we leave. But wouldn't that be true whether we leave this year or 20 years from now? For God's sake, the British occupied India for something like 90 years, and it happened when they left, too.

Unfortunately, civil wars need to run their course. Isn't it time we let this one start running?

Now before any of the Crazy 29 start screaming about a wider war, I'm not saying we should completely withdraw from the region. Alas, Georgie's mess needs to be cleaned up. I agree with people like Congressman Murtha, who suggest we pull our troops to the borders. Let us make sure the neighbors stay out of the fight, and focus on Al Qaeda, while the Iraqis do what they seem unable to stop themselves from doing.

Of course, the Republicans will try to blame this on the Democrats, and, yes, the Crazy 29 will believe it, but who cares? They believe that the world was created in 7 days, that man and dinosaur coexisted, and that George Bush is a great visionary president.

At least our kids will be (relatively) out of harm's way.

The rest of us will then grieve for the tragedy we left behind. We'll cry when we see the pictures out of Baghdad. We'll know that because of our inaction at the start, we share in at least some of the blame. What of the Crazy 29? What will they be thinking as they point their fingers at us? Will they really give a damn about Arabs killing Arabs? If you think so, then don't forget to pick up after your dinosaur.
