Times Higher Education World University Rankings: American Schools Dominate List (PHOTOS)

Although the Times Higher Education joins a pack of organizations attempting to rank the world's educational institutions, their list is causing quite a stir.

According to the Chronicle of Higher Education, the Times' list is unique in its attempt to rank institutions based on quantifiable, rather than subjective, measures of value. This year, the Times used data from Thomson Reuters, breaking its previous partnership with Quacquarelli Symonds Limited, which is now working with U.S. News and World Report. QS, as it is known, released its rankings of the world's best universities earlier this month.

The Times claims that it has worked to ensure a more scrupulous rating system this year, focusing on schools' achievements in five areas: teaching, research (measured in volume, income and reputation), citations (measuring research influence), industry income and international mix of staff and students.

Is this list better than the rest? Check out the top 15 schools below, and let us know what you think in the comments section.
