8 Fascinating Facts About How Teens Use The Internet And Social Media

What is a little shocking are some recent studies by the Pew Research Center which prove just how addicted teens (ages 13 to 17) really are to social media platforms and the internet overall...24% of teens admit to going online "almost constantly" -- that's 1 in 4 who are online all the time!

Surprise -- teens love the Internet!

OK, so it's not exactly a surprise. What is a little shocking are the statistics revealed in a recent study by Pew Research Center, entitled "Teens, Social Media & Technology Overview 2010." The findings, many of which are listed below, highlight teens' growing dependency on media and devices.

Between Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, Snapchat, texts, phone calls and web search capabilities, it can be tough to put the phone down, or shut off the computer. Maybe these statistics will do the trick:

1. Twenty-four percent of teens admit to going online "almost constantly" -- this is undoubtedly linked to the widespread availability of smartphones.

2. Ninety-two percent of teens report going online at least once a day, and 56 percent admit they go online "several times" a day. This means only 8 percent of teens are able to resist going online every day.

3. Eighty-eight percent of teens ages 13-17 say they have a cell phone, and 90 percent of them say they use them to text. The average teen sends and receives 30 texts per day (not including messaging apps like Facebook message, WhatsApp and Kik)

4. With a smartphone or without, 91 percent of teens report that they access the internet from their phone. Among this group, 94 percent report they access internet on their phone daily or more often!

5. Seventy-one percent of teens say they use more than one of the following social networks: Facebook, Google+, Instagram, Twitter, Snapchat, Vine and Tumblr
