I HATE it when I see a so-called small business or online "expert" say something like this:
  • "You have to BLOG to be successful."
  • "You have to be really active on SOCIAL MEDIA to be successful."
  • "You have to SPEAK to be successful."
  • "You have to do FACEBOOK ADVERTISING to be successful."

And then conveniently they have a product that teaches you how to do it.

Here's a (painful) example from my own experience.

Last year I went to a big conference and got carried away by one of the speakers. At the end of her talk she offered a $997 product for sale to teach the audience to speak like she does.

About 250 of us rushed to the back of the room, excited to get our hands on her training. And I was in that stampeding herd.

This speaker was so dynamic on stage that I believed that she'd teach me a few hacks to make my speeches flow better.

I WAS A TOTAL SUCKER.

Her program was poorly designed, totally confusing, a huge information overload and a total waste of time and effort.

And the entire thing was designed to get me to do one thing: buy her one-on-one coaching package upgrade (which was $25,000, by the way).

And that wasn't an accident.

By keeping me and everyone else stuck and overwhelmed, it made for a much easier sale. I know at least six people who upgraded to that one-on-one package...

... because most people blame themselves.

They think they're just missing something. So they fork over truckloads of money trying to get to that one little nugget that will help them move forward.

I have had this happen to ME more times than I care to admit.

(I have examples for blogging, guest blogging, podcasting, Facebook -- ads, pages and more, creating online courses, email autoresponders and more. I've spent over $150,000 on courses, events and coaches in the past four years -- so trust me, I've seen a LOT out there.)

Today, I'm giving you my hard-earned, down and dirty hacks to decide if blogging is the right path for you.

And let me tell you, this ain't no 'Build it and they will come' story.

Quite the opposite, in fact.

What about you?
