Todd Akin Election: Missouri Senate Campaign Comes To Close

It's Too Late For Todd Akin To Apologize

Back in August, GOP Rep. Todd Akin's election run against incumbent Democratic Sen. Claire McCaskill gained national attention -- in controversial fashion.

Akin turned heads with a comment on a Missouri television station, where he professed that "legitimate rape" victims rarely get pregnant. "The female body has ways to try to shut that whole thing down," Akin added.

At that point in August, HuffPost Pollster's model of opinion polls showed Akin and McCaskill knotted at 45 percent apiece. By Monday, Nov. 5, McCaskill had built an eight-point edge, 49 to 41 percent.

In Missouri, polls are open between 6:00 a.m. and 7:00 p.m. Any voter in line at the 7:00 p.m. mark is allowed to cast their vote.

As voters make their choice, HuffPost Politics has compiled some of Akin's more memorable moments on the campaign trail, matching them with some fitting songs. Scroll down for all Akin's greatest hits, as well as the latest news from our Election Day live blog.
