UPDATE: Nov. 8 ― The Boston Globe reports Brady did vote on Monday, filling out an absentee ballot at the town clerk’s office in Brookline in Massachusetts. Brady’s wife, supermodel Gisele Bündchen, said on Instagram she and Brady are not supporting Trump in the election.
CBS on Tuesday confirmed Belichick did indeed send Trump a note.
Donald Trump told the crowd at a New Hampshire rally Monday that New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady and head coach Bill Belichick have both endorsed him for president.
“He called today and he said, ‘Donald, I support you, you’re my friend, and I voted for you,’” the GOP nominee told a crowd in Manchester. “And I want to tell you, this guy is a champ, and he is a winner, and he is a great person. So I said, ‘So Tom, you voted for me, you support me, am I allowed to say it tonight to this massive crowd in New Hampshire?’
“He said, ‘If you want to say it, you can say it.’ That’s what a champ is all about,” he added.
Trump then pulled out a letter he said was from Belichick, which he read onstage. The GOP nominee said he received it just hours prior, and that he had obtained permission from Belichick to read it at the rally.
“Congratulations on a tremendous campaign,” Belichick said, according to Trump. “You have dealt with an unbelievable slanted and negative media and have come out beautifully. You’ve proved to be the ultimate competitor and fighter. Your leadership is amazing. I have always had tremendous respect for you. But the toughness and perseverance you have displayed is remarkable. Hopefully tomorrow’s election will give you the opportunity to make America great again.”
The GOP nominee thanked Belichick for his support, and then wished him luck in his future endeavors.
“Go win a good Super Bowl, or whatever you want to do,” Trump added of the championship team, which has been fined for breaking NFL rules in the past.
The Patriots and Brady’s agent did not immediately return an inquiry about their support of Trump.
Brady is reportedly friends with Trump, and a “Make America Great Again” hat was spotted in his locker earlier this year. Last month, he declined to answer a question from a reporter about a tape in which Trump was heard boasting of sexual assault.
It’s unclear whether Brady has voted. In an interview earlier Monday, the star quarterback said he hadn’t yet cast his ballot:
Editor’s note: Donald Trump regularly incites political violence and is a serial liar, rampant xenophobe, racist, misogynist and birther who has repeatedly pledged to ban all Muslims — 1.6 billion members of an entire religion — from entering the U.S.
