Tom Brokaw: 'Tough To See' How Eric Holder Keeps His Job

Tom Brokaw appeared on "Meet The Press" on Sunday and weighed in on the Department of Justice secretly monitoring Associated Press and Fox News journalists.

Last week, Attorney General Eric Holder met with news outlets to review the Justice Department's guidelines for investigating journalists. The meeting sparked another controversy when outlets, including The New York Times, boycotted the meeting after learning that the gathering would be off-the-record.

"Meet The Press" host David Gregory asked Brokaw if he thought Holder would remain in his job in light of the recent controversies and a New York Times article citing unnamed sources who spoke of Holder's ineffectiveness as a leader.

"Boy, I think it's tough to see how he does in this case," Brokaw said. "But it's up to the president ... He has become obviously the lightning rod for a lot of the criticism just on this panel and certainly in Republican circles. From a political point of view, one of the ways that you can measure the impact of all of this and the fairness of it is think if this had happened in the Bush administration with John Ashcroft as the attorney general. You know full well that the Democrats on the left would be going very hard after them with these issues that are in play."
