While writing for his solo debut, Keane frontman Tom Chaplin fell on some hard times. He slipped back into his drug addiction, became a recluse, and lost all creativity. To break the downward spiral he found himself in the singer realized he needed professional help and wholeheartedly threw himself into therapy. In doing so, what would become the album The Wave began to take shape. "I was trying to rebuild the relationships that I'd ruined, in particular with my wife and daughter," he pauses, "and with myself as well, I'd kind of destroyed that too. This informed the writing very profoundly."
