The formerly home-schooled Suri Cruise is about to embark on her first day of private school at Avenues this September -- reportedly something neither Tom Cruise nor Katie Holmes wants to miss.
According to RadarOnline, the former couple, who are in the process of divorcing, are willing to put aside their differences and take Suri to school together on the big day.
A source close to the former couple explains that Cruise has made plans to be in New York for Suri's first day of school, which will be after Labor Day. "It's a big moment in Suri's life and Katie wants Tom to be a part of that," explained the source.
Cruise and Holmes had been reportedly making an effort to keep things amicable for the sake of their daughter, a source told People magazine earlier this month, revealing that they are going to do whatever they feel is best for her.
"Katie doesn't want Suri to suffer because of their divorce and both parents are truly putting the needs of their little girl ahead of their own feelings," adds Radar's insider.
Holmes filed for divorce from Cruise on June 29, reportedly blindsiding the actor, whom she married in November 2006. The 33-year-old actress reportedly planned the split for months and even used disposable phones to contact lawyers so Cruise wouldn't suspect anything.
RadarOnline also previously reported that Holmes has no regrets about her decision to end her marriage and is now enjoying her independence, since she no longer has to worry about Cruise's influence in her life.
The former couple quickly reached a divorce settlement, which included the terms of custody over 6-year-old Suri. Details of the settlement have not been released to the public, but it appears that Holmes has primary custody since Suri lives with her full-time in New York. For his part, Cruise has already made sure he's spent some quality time with his daughter -- lavishing her with fun adventures, including helicopter rides and a visit to Cinderella's Castle at Disney World -- sending a clear message he wants to be fully involved in her life.
"Katie's desire for Suri to enroll in school was one of the main reasons why she decided to split from Tom. Tom's two children with Nicole Kidman were home-schooled by Scientology tutors and he wanted the same for Suri," explained RadarOnline's insider, adding that Tom isn't happy that Suri will be attending Avenues, but he has "reluctantly accepted this is the way it's going to be and will absolutely be a big part of Suri's life at school."
