Versace for H&M is still hot on the racks, but rumors are already percolating about the next designer to possibly link arms with the Swedish fashion chain: Tom Ford.
This isn't the first time fashion fans have gotten their hopes up about the famous former Gucci designer possibly shilling for H&M; last year a French Tribune article sent whispers of a possible collab around the Internet, which as of yet have proved fruitless.
Ford is "a very interesting name," H&M's creative adviser Margareta van den Bosch said by telephone from Stockholm when asked about the possibility of a collaboration with the 50-year-old designer. "I can say, I wouldn't mind."
And an analyst says the collection would be a great retail venture:
"There would be great customer interest in such a collection," said Anne Critchlow, a London-based analyst at Societe Generale. Being involved with well-known designers confers "fashion authority" on the H&M brand, she said.
A spokesperson for Tom Ford reportedly declined to comment. A Ford collection would mark the ninth's designer collaboration for H&M; the first was Karl Lagerfeld's line back in 2004.
Regardless of what he has in the pipes, Ford's having a busy fall already: he launched a beauty boutique in Bergdorf Goodman, and his new ads, called "Night Temptress," star famous model Candice Swanepoel.
Is this all Ford/H&M just hearsay that will fizzle out, like last year's? Until we hear some official words, we're not going to keep out budget-minded fingers crossed just yet.
Are you excited about the rumors? If not, who'd you rather see create designs for H&M?
