Tom Hardy As Elton John? 'Dark Knight Rises' Actor Rumored To Play Famed Singer In New Film

Can You See It?

Can you feel the what tonight? According to HitFx reporter Drew McWeeny, Tom Hardy has been approached to star in "Rocketman," a musical biopic about Elton John that John himself is executive producing. (As reported by Deadline.com back in March, Michael Gracey will direct.) Hardy, who starred as Bane in last year's "The Dark Knight Rises," hasn't received an official offer as of yet.

"Rocketman" has been in development for quite a while. John first conceived of the project back in 2011 and has envisioned the film as a type of "musical fantasy." (John's songs will be used to underscore sequences; the original Deadline.com report makes it sound like a jukebox musical writ large for the big screen.) Just after "Rocketman" was announced, James McAvoy was rumored to be a part of the film as John. No deal was ever reached.

As for Hardy, he's got quite a busy schedule at the moment: The actor will be seen in "Mad Max: Fury Road," "Animal Rescue," "Child 44" and "Everest." Whether he would have time for "Rocketman" is unclear. For what it's worth, TheWrap reporter Jeff Sneider noted that the "Rocketman" producers have denied Hardy's involvement:
