
Thomas “Tommy” Ford, best known for his role as Tommy Strawn on the hit 90’s show “Martin, died on Wednesday at age 52 in Atlanta.
The actor had been recovering from knee replacement surgery and was admitted into an Atlanta hospital over the weekend, according to TMZ. Though the family’s spokeswoman Joy Pervis did not give the cause of his death, NBC reports that Ford suffered from a burst abdominal aneurysm and was placed on life support.
“It is with great sadness that we announce the untimely passing of our beloved son, father, brother, husband and friend Tommy Mykal Ford,” Pervis said in a family statement posted on social media. “On behalf of the family, we would like to thank everyone for their love, support and prayers.”
An Instagram post shared from his page after his passing reads that he was surround by his family at the time of his death. Ford was “so dearly loved by so many and for that lets all be grateful for a life well served,” the caption says.
Celebrities, including Martin Lawrence, Cedric the Entertainer and Larry Wilmore, filled social media with prayers for Ford and his family.
The family told USA Today that funeral arrangements will be forthcoming.
