Dad Who Shot Daughter's Laptop Says He Doesn't Regret It

Tommy Jordan found Internet fame in 2012 when he filmed himself shooting holes in his 15-year-old daughter's laptop after she posted a disrespectful missive about her parents on Facebook. The video went viral, racking up 39 million views on YouTube and it prompted debate about whether his form of discipline crossed the line and set a bad example.

Two years later, Jordan has no regrets about unloading on his daughter's computer, he told HuffPost Live on April 1.

During a discussion about whether parents should share their children's punishments online, Jordan said he posted his video to make a point to his daughter about the visibility of content posted to social media.

"My daughter acted up on Facebook -- what my mom would have called 'in front of God and everybody,'" Jordan told HuffPost Live's Marc Lamont Hill. "So I responded in front of God and everybody."

Jordan added that two months before he recorded the video, he punished his daughter and took away her computer. At the time, he warned her that if she misbehaved again, he would "put a bullet through it." She didn't take him seriously, so actually shooting the laptop was his way of following through.

"The point was I did exactly what I said I was gonna do," Jordan said.

During the conversation, Jordan reacted to a disturbing new video posted online of a father whipping his daughters with a cable wire after he caught them filming themselves twerking. Jordan described it this way: "That wasn't discipline. That was child abuse."

Jordan said that while the video he made may become part of his daughter's reputation, she learned a lesson without suffering any physical harm.

"My daughter may always be known as the girl who lost a laptop. OK. She's not the girl who was beat ... with an electrical cable and suffered flayed open wounds," he said.
