New Year's is a time for fresh starts, hopes and dreams and saying goodbye to the old year in a suitably celebratory fashion. Here in the US, we ring on the New Year with champagne, Auld Lang Syne and ball drop celebrations followed by a day with family and friends, watching football and parades and recharging before diving into the promise of the next year.

At this time of reflection and camaraderie, we thought it would be good to see how other cultures around the world come together as families, friends and communities to mark the beginning of a brand new year. It is always a pleasure, after all, to celebrate a new year with new friends in a new place.
