Top 10 States Trying To Block Health Care Reform

By the time President Barack Obama had finished signing the health care reform bill on Tuesday, several states were already in the midst of mounting legal campaigns to try to block the new legislation.

As of Wednesday, at least 14 states were involved in lawsuits challenging the constitutionality of the health care reform bill. Attorneys general of 13 states -- 12 Republicans and one Democrat -- have signed on to a joint lawsuit against the recently-signed legislation. Virginia has launched its own separate campaign.

Sen. Ron Wyden (D-Ore.) told the Huffington Post Wednesday that the health care reform bill actually has a provision that may end up making such lawsuits moot. States do not, in fact, have to accept the so-called "individual mandate," which requires most people to buy insurance, as long as states set up their own plans.

The other states launching lawsuits include Idaho, Nebraska, South Dakota, South Carolina, Nebraska, Louisiana, Texas, Alabama, Utah, Colorado, Pennsylvania, Washington, and Michigan.
