Say what you want about golf not being a sport for the masses, but tell me another major championship that can be won by somebody you never heard of?

Happy Monday everyone, here's my Top 5 for August 15, 2011 from Len Berman at www.ThatsSports.com.

1. Quick Hits

  • Tour rookie Keegan Bradley wins the PGA Championship in a three-hole playoff with Jason Dufner.
  • Dan Uggla of the Braves has his consecutive game hit streak stopped at 33. Joe DiMaggio's record of 56 remains safe.
  • Cubs pitcher Carlos Zambrano has been placed on the disqualified list and will go 30 days without pay. He claimed he was retiring after he gave up five homers in Atlanta. Zambrano is expected to file a grievance.
  • Long-time Atlanta Braves announcer Ernie Johnson Sr. dies at the age of 87.

2. PGA Championship

Say what you want about golf not being a sport for the masses, but tell me another major championship that can be won by somebody you never heard of? Guaranteed, the finalists in next month's U.S. Open will be tennis players you know. I think it's a positive that there's so much new young talent on the tour. And what a week for St. John's University. On Friday, favorite son Chris Mullin was inducted into the Basketball Hall of Fame, and yesterday Keegan Bradley, class of '08, made a stirring comeback to win the PGA in a playoff. Way to go Redmen. (I still can't get used to calling them the Red Storm.)

3. Monday Musings

* Plaxico Burress tells HBO that before he shot himself in the leg he didn't know who Mayor Bloomberg was. And he's proud of that?

* After coming off the bench to drive in six runs including a grand slam, the Yankees Jorge Posada said, "Take that you chump, Joe Girardi." Just kidding, the classy Posada said, "I am grateful to put this uniform on and that I got a chance today."

* Midseason form. The Oakland Raiders somehow botched the coin toss and kicked off to start the game AND the second half. Is it a surprise they lost to Arizona 24-18?

4. The Worm

In case you missed Dennis Rodman the other night, he did not wear a wedding dress for his Basketball Hall of Fame induction. His outfit was unique nonetheless, and he did have a wardrobe change before he addressed the crowd. And fans might have been surprised by his speech. He broke down and cried. Instead of the bravado you might have expected, he cited his own failures as a husband, father and son. He was memorable to say the least. But isn't he always?

5. Victimless Crime

At a charity golf tournament last month in Woodward Oklahoma, there was a putting green challenge. Maybe one of the volunteers didn't understand exactly what the challenge was. So she stripped naked. City leaders were upset, but the county sheriff said he wasn't going to investigate because nobody filed a complaint.

Happy Birthday: Two time Super Bowl champion Bubby Brister. He was John Elway's backup in Denver. 49.
Bonus Birthday: Actor Ben Affleck. 39.

Today in Sports: Now that's a pitcher's duel. Babe Ruth beats Walter Johnson 1-0 in 13 innings at Fenway Park. 1916.
Bonus Event: Yeah yeah yeah. The Beatles play Shea Stadium. 1965.
