Pa. Homeless Charity Allegedly Splurges Funding Dollars On Vacations, Clothes, Shows

Executives at a Philadelphia charity who were supposed to provide shelter for the homeless, allegedly squandered funds on vacations, shoes and shows instead, a FOX29 investigation revealed.

Self Inc., which receives more than $7 million from the city, state and federal government, offers Philadelphia's homeless housing, shelter and drug recovery services. But after examining the charity's American Express bills from 2006 to 2009, FOX 29 made some shocking discoveries about how the organization was using its funding.

Splurges on the company dime included trips to the Bahamas, spa treatments, gym memberships and shoe shopping sprees, the investigation revealed.

"A lot of mismanagement of money," Robert Ferrandino, a former controller for Self, told the news source, "and not a care about it."
