Tori Bowie Races To Bronze Medal In Women's 200-Meter Dash

American sprinter Tori Bowie earned a Bronze medal for the women’s 200-meter dash in Rio de Janeiro on Wednesday.

The Mississippi native finished with a time of 22.15 seconds after stumbling early. Elaine Thompson of Jamaica finished finished first, at 21.78 seconds. Dafne Schippers of the Netherland finished second, at 21.88 seconds.

This is Bowie’s second medal at the 2016 Olympics. She won silver in the women’s 100-meter dash, finishing the 328-foot race in 10.83 seconds. It’s also the first Olympics for the 25-year-old sprinter, who was prevented from trying out for the 2012 London Games due to a broken jaw. A two-time NCAA champion long-jumper, she competes primarily in 100-meter, 200-meter and long jump events.

The women’s 200-meter world record stands at 21.34 seconds, set by American Florence Gryffith-Joyner at the 1988 Olympics in Seoul.
