Tracey Jackson: Screenwriter Takes Spoiled Daughter To India Slums To Learn About Life

Tracey Jackson's 15-year-old daughter Taylor had a problem. She was sending 7,000 texts a month, charging hundreds of dollars to her mother on iTunes, and leaving $12,000 worth of designer clothes strewn across her floor. Jackson blamed herself for this behavior. She had created "a teen monster."

So, she told Taylor to pack her things, and off they went to spend three weeks in the slums of Mumbai, living with people she didn't know and teaching English to young children.

She writes about her experience in the New York Post:

At Taylor's school, lunch was bowls of gruel, scooped out by hand. Back at her compound, the toilet was a hole in the floor and the shower consisted of buckets of water in the same room. I tagged along with her on a day trip to another city, where a new school had just opened. Taylor was subsisting on coffee and gum and could barely get through her first class teaching the kids English.

The "Confessions of a Shopaholic" screenwriter made a documentary about the experienced, called "Lucky Ducks."
