Transgender Woman To Run For Congress

Paula Overby, a 59-year-old transgender woman, announced her candidacy today, Aug. 12, for Minnesota's 2nd Congressional District in the 2014 election.

A quality-assurance analyst, Overby will run against Thomas Craft, who is also new to the political arena, as well as Mike Obermueller, who has run for office previously but lost.

Overby told the St. Paul Pioneer Press that her platform will partially centralize around fixing what she perceives as a broken campaign financing system. She admits that her gender identity will be a "polarizing issue," but doesn't want it to be the focal point of her campaign.
