Tre'Darrius, From "My Teenage Wedding" Dies at 24

It started in the DMs, a heartwarming relationship that would quickly become the hallmark of Black queer love. Later, their relationship became a groundbreaking message to those that opposed same sex marriage during the long fight for marriage equality; their love spoke volumes when the queer world needed it the most. And when that battle was won, and same sex marriage became legal, Tre’Darrius and David Harris became the youngest gay couple in America, marrying at only 19-years-old.

A marriage—such as this—was televised on a show called “My Teenage Wedding.” Tre’Darrius and David, together, became the embodiment of young and unconditional love. Their love inspired other young gay couples to flaunt their love for one another publicly. The episode, that aired on Slice TV, saw some of their highest ratings ever. The couple accepted also received the Gentlemen of Promise Award in 2014, from the Gentlemen’s Ball.

Nothing except death itself could end a marriage like this; and it did—on November 2, 2017 Tre’Darrius lost his life, leaving behind his loving husband, David.
