French-inspired home décor has been a strong design trend in recent years. Richly distressed and patinated finishes lent a rustic flea market look to European-influenced finds. However, this fall, we're seeing a fresh look for French lighting, furniture, and décor, with softer finishes and chalky pastel accents.

While dramatic distressed furniture finishes have been popular in the past, the new look emerging is softer, gentler, and more livable. Whitewashed woods are seen with a touch of weathered coastal softness. Dark bronze metal chandeliers are replaced with lighting in sophisticated champagne and painted cream finishes seen in the lovely sitting room pictured below.

Textiles feature subtle patterns and washed textures. Grey, taupe, and beige linens remain popular - after all, they're staples of the Parisian style. Toiles and other traditional French patterns have taken on a softer look, with the crisp blues and whites of the past replaced with dusty blue and cream tones. Chalky pinks are prevalent.

An iconic design detail of French décor that remains this season is tufting. The crisp tailoring of tufted headboards, sofas, chairs, and even benches contrasts beautifully with breezy draped linen and casually ruched bedding to create a look that's fresh, feminine, and romantic.

Be inspired by the charm and style of the new French décor trend this fall.
