A former Oklahoma police officer has been charged with four felonies after he allegedly had sexual contact with a 15-year-old girl.
Charges against Trever Blackwell, a former officer with the Wewoka police, include one count of second-degree rape. Prosecutors with the state attorney general's office said that Blackwell, who is now 30 years old, performed sex acts on the girl beginning in August 2011.
Blackwell was 27 at the time, and in charge of the department's Explorer program, a career-oriented class that's designed to educate young people about law enforcement. The girl told police that she met the then-officer through that program, and that their first sexual encounter took place during a ride-along.
The victim said that she and Blackwell had exchanged texts and Facebook messages for months prior to the encounter, and that the officer said that he loved her and wanted to marry her, according to the Tulsa World.
Blackwell and the victim had sex while he was on duty several times, the newspaper reports:
She also said she and her sister went to Blackwell’s home in fall 2011 to watch a movie with him and another officer and that they again had sex while her sister and the other officer went to his truck “for a couple of hours.” Blackwell’s wife was in California at that time, the affidavit states.
Prosecutors said the alleged abuse continued until January 2012. Blackwell left the Wewoka police in December 2013, and the department's Explorer program has since been disbanded. It is not clear if he is still working as a peace officer in Oklahoma.
Blackwell was booked on charges of second-degree rape, as well as two counts of lewd or indecent acts with a minor and one count of transmitting information by computer for purposes of instigating sexual conduct with a minor.
If convicted, he faces up to 15 years for the first count, 20 years each for the second and third count, and 10 years for the fourth count, according to KFOR.
