Newly minted "Daily Show" host Trevor Noah underwent an emergency appendectomy early Wednesday morning, Comedy Central announced in a statement.

The South African comedian, who took over the helm of the popular news and satire show in September, is reported to be recuperating well and is expected to return to the show Thursday. Comedy Central will air an encore episode Wednesday while Noah recovers.
