The Trevor Project Celebrates 16th Year Anniversary With TrevorLIVE Los Angeles (PHOTOS)

LOOK: The Stars Were Out For The 16th Annual TrevorLIVE LA Event

Leading lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) suicide prevention organization The Trevor Project held their 16th annual TrevorLIVE Los Angeles event over the weekend, celebrating a number of leaders in the queer movement.

The stars were out in full force for the event, including Jesse Tyler Ferguson, Darren Criss, Alex Newell, Melora Hardin and Marc Shaim, just to name a few. A number of awards were also presented throughout the evening, including Skylar Kergil receiving the Trevor Youth Innovator Award and NBC Entertainment’s Chairman, Robert Greenblatt, receiving the Trevor Hero Award.

“I think the purpose of a night like this is to remind all of us -- who live in our perfect little bubbles -- that there are many, many people out there with truly serious issues.” Greenblatt continued, “They’ve run out of hope because they don’t feel they can ever be who they are.”

Transgender artist, musician and YouTube personality Skylar Kergil, who recently blogged for Gay Voices, also gave an inspirational speech about living authentically: “More than ever, I’m motivated to continue to live openly and share my story to help build safer communities for youth, drive forward meaningful change, and keep the conversations about LGBTQ young people going strong. I fully believe that time and support is one of the most valuable things we can give to one another. Everyone has a story to tell, and there’s always someone out there who’s waiting to hear it."

Earlier this year Arianna Huffington was honored by The Trevor Project for her work supporting the LGBT community, including the launching of HuffPost Gay Voices, at the TrevorLIVE NY event.
