”Saturday Night Live” cast members Mikey Day and Alex Moffat showed up again this week to play President Donald Trump’s adult sons, Donald Jr. and Eric. They attempted to address some of the ethics matters of the White House — and, ah, maturity issues.
“The Trump organization is entirely in our hands,” Donald Jr. insisted during the “Weekend Update” segment, citing the opening of new Trump projects in Vancouver and Dubai. The president is maintaining ownership of his businesses, raising serious conflict-of-interest concerns, but he’s insisted he has nothing to do with management, which he says he has turned over to his sons.
“Bottom line is, the only people making decisions regarding the Trump organization are Eric and myself,” Donald Jr. declared in the skit.
“And Dad,” Eric piped in.
“No, no, remember, Eric,” said his big brother. “Dad does not tell us what to do anymore.”
“Yeah he does,” Eric responded.
Then Donald Jr. offered Eric his phone.
“You want to play on my phone, bud?” he asked. “Eric’s a little jokester. What he meant to say was, the only people calling the shots at the Trump organization are myself and this guy.”
“I’m tired,” Eric said.
“Yeah, he’s gonna get cranky,” explained big bro. “We gotta get him home. So it’s quick bath, jammies, then bed.”
“Weekend Update” co-anchor Michael Che took on Trump himself, mocking him for the way he uses Twitter. He ripped Trump for accusing former President Barack Obama — without offering any evidence — of tapping Trump’s phones before the election. Trump had also tweeted: “Is it legal for a sitting President to be ‘wire tapping’ a race for president prior to an election?”
“Dude, you’re the president of the United States and you’re seeking legal advice on Twitter?” asked Che.
Co-anchor Colin Jost mocked the effusive praise from some pundits for Trump’s speech to Congress last week. “He was able to speak like a human president for over an hour,” he said, pointing out that the bar was set at “reads words good.”
