In a meeting with a conservative women's group, a freshman GOP Congressman suggests that Donald Trump's meeting with Speaker Paul Ryan is not what it's been presented to be.

Speaker Ryan says he met with Donald Trump to discuss their differences and work toward unity, but meetings on Capitol Hill are instead, per Rep. Bruce Poliquin of Maine, being held to provide Donald Trump with a set of policies that can be implemented after the election.

Poliquin states that Trump doesn't have any real policies now but the very conservative House GOP will provide those for him, ready-made.

Here's what this representative said, per a recording obtained by Maine blogger Mike Tipping:

"Trump is not a policy person. I don't know what half his policies are," said Poliquin. "He's gonna say 'We're going in this direction. Poliquin, you fix this.'"

Poliquin said that Trump's Capitol Hill meetings this week are the first step in this process of strategic and policy alignment.

"And guess where the policy's going to come from: the House of Representatives. Not from the Senate, it's going to come from us. That's why these meetings are happening now. Don't read about all the crap in the press," Poliquin concluded.

Rep. Poliquin has previously refused to say if we would support Trump. He distanced himself from Trump by saying he would not be a delegate to the Republican National Convention. A March 2016 poll found that Clinton had more support than Trump in Maine, with 43% for Clinton and 34% for Trump.

Now Rep. Poliquin thinks he will play a key role in providing President Trump with policies. Trump will say, "Poliquin, you fix it."

In the same recording, which can be heard at Tipping's blog post, Poliquin says that Trump will win because people are afraid and will say, ""oh I can't stand this guy, but he's different" and "he can't be any worse."

Whether Rep. Poliquin, a freshman legislator, is privy to what's really going on in those meetings on Capitol Hill, is hard to say. But his comments reveal his view about Trump's lack of knowledge about public policy and a rather jaundiced view of voters.
