TSA Donates Equipment To Smithsonian For 9/11 Remembrance

The TSA has donated airport safety screening devices, including a metal detector and a training dummy to the Smithsonian Institute's National Museum of American History, which will display the items as part of its "September 11: Remembrance and Reflection" exhibit.

The exhibit will also include remnants from the World Trade Centers, the Pentagon and Flight 93, including seatbelts, a logbook and airplane fragments.

Though metal detectors and training dummies were in use before the attacks, the controversy surrounding many of the TSA's screening policies has made them a symbol of the heightened security and suspicion post-9/11.

The Associated Press reports that the TSA equipment will be joined by a shirt from an official screeners' uniform. The exhibit will be on view from September 3 until the tenth anniversary of the attacks next Saturday. The Smithsonian, the world's largest museum complex, plans to maintain the objects "in perpetuity" as reminders and evidence of the attacks.
