Tulsi Gabbard Wins Midterm Election Race Against Kawika Crowley

Tulsi Gabbard Wins Re-Election

Rep. Tulsi Gabbard (D-Hawaii) was re-elected to Congress from Hawaii's 2nd District Tuesday, defeating Republican Kawika Crowley by a wide margin.

Gabbard, a 33-year-old rising star in the Democratic Party, hardly had to campaign this election after running unopposed in the Aug. 9 primary. Instead, she and her political action committee have spent thousands of dollars helping fellow Democrats in Hawaii and on the mainland.

Tuesday marked the second time Gabbard has defeated Crowley, a 63-year-old professional handyman and advertising consultant.

In 2012, Gabbard blew past former Honolulu Mayor Mufi Hannemann in the Democratic primary and then beat Crowley in the general, winning 77 percent of the vote. She is the first Hindu ever elected to Congress.

On Monday, Gabbard was called up for activation by the Hawaii Army National Guard to help Hawaii County respond to the ongoing lava flow there. The military police captain joins 80 other Guard members already on the ground, according to a media advisory from her office.

Gabbard has been a vocal supporter of veterans issues.
