Turns Out, It Costs More To Be A Groomsman Than A Bridesmaid

But #RealTalk, it's expensive either way.

When all is said and done, it turns out groomsmen shell out more on wedding duties than bridesmaids -- at least according to a survey of 1,005 people by finance and banking website GOBankingRates.

1. Clothing

According to GOBankingRates, men ages 18 to 24 spend $314.26 on average on tuxes, the most of any age group in the survey.

2. Bachelor and Bachelorette Parties

Best men spend more than twice as much as regular groomsmen — $998.78 on average, while women serving as maid of honors spend an average of $552.33.

3. Wedding Gifts

"A greater percentage of bridesmaids than groomsmen said they didn’t buy the couple any gifts — 6 percent versus 3 percent, respectively. And 16 percent of bridesmaids said they spent less than $50 versus just 9 percent of groomsmen," according to GOBankingRates.

Bridesmaids are more likely to go over budget; 32 percent of bridesmaids said the total amount they spent was more than they budgeted or expected to pay, while only 28 percent of groomsmen said the same.
