' TWO: The Story of Roman and Nyro " is a heartwarming new documentary that chronicles the story of two men and their journey to start a family together with a surrogate mother.
One of these men is songwriter Desmond Child, who has written chart-topping hits such as "Livin' On A Prayer," "I Hate Myself for Loving You," and "Livin' La Vida Loca." Through this film, Child and his husband Curtis Shaw Child, together for 24 years, hope to show the ways in which a loving marriage and family is attainable for LGBT individuals.
At its root, the film is a touching and nuanced documentation of the pair's struggle to have children, their relationship with the surrogate mother, Angela Whittaker, and their sons Roman and Nyro -- the five of whom come together to create a wonderful, amazing and loving family.
"We've made 'TWO: The Story of Roman and Nyro' for a few different reasons," Curtis Shaw told The Huffington Post. "Partly, we wanted to address the falsehoods and misinformation that continue to be thrown at the LGBT community; we wanted to show people that we're just one 'modern' family living in the trenches of parenthood (on the buckle of the bible belt in Nashville, Tennessee) struggling with and celebrating all the same things as every other family as we raise our balanced and happy children. And we wanted to show that whether you're gay or straight, it's love that makes a family -- and ours has lots of it."
An important documentation of the realities of LGBT parenting, "TWO" is the directorial debut of Heather Winters, the producer of "Super Size Me" and other award-winning documentaries.
