Two NYPD Officers Stable, Suspect Dead Following Bronx Shooting

One suspect died from apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound.

Two New York Police Department officers were in stable condition Thursday night after being shot while on duty in the Bronx, according to the department.

The NYPD said the officers were conducting a vertical patrol in the Melrose Houses, near 156th Street, when they encountered armed suspects and were shot.

The New York Times reports one officer, a woman, was struck in the torso, while a male officer was grazed in the face by a bullet. Both were taken to Lincoln Medical and Mental Health Center.

As of Thursday night, the NYPD said the officers' conditions were not life-threatening.
