Real-Life ‘Grinches’ Try To Steal Christmas In Colo. Springs

Two real-life "Grinches" almost got away with stealing Christmas presents from a Colorado Springs family, but the pair were arrested and the stolen toys were returned to the family within hours of being snatched.

According to the Colorado Springs Police Blotter, police officers observed a car speeding on Jetwing Drive and then crash into a residential backyard fence, early Tuesday morning. Two males raced out of the crashed car -- one of them, 27-year-old Vincente Romero, was immediately arrested. Several hours later the second suspect, 21-year-old Jagmeet Singh, was taken into custody.

Upon investigation of the crashed car, officers found $600 worth of stolen toys and brought the toys back to the Colorado Springs mother who they were stolen from. Police said she was "elated to have her family's Christmas presents returned."

7News reports that Romero had just broken into the family's car on nearby Patrick Drive and stolen the Christmas gifts moments before capture.

No one was injured during the incident.

Romero faces multiple charges including first degree criminal trespass and possession of burglary tools. Singh faces first degree criminal trespass, possession of burglary tools and multiple traffic offenses, according to KRDO.
