Doomsday Prepper Allegedly Talked Of Robbing Neighbors When Apocalypse Strikes

A self-proclaimed "doomsday prepper" may be spending the pending apocalypse behind bars after investigators heard his survival plan involved armed robbery of his neighbors

Tyler Smith, 26, appeared on the National Geographic series "Doomsday Preppers" in November to discuss how, in the event, of a disaster, he planned to rob and pillage his neighbors in Buckley, Wash.

"All your shiny AR's, your high powered .308 rifles, your 50,000 rounds of ammo are all going to be ours", Smith warned in the episode.

He's seen shooting guns in the episode and that's a problem since, as a convicted felon, he's not allowed by law to own or use a firearm.

"Even if he doesn't own the guns, he can't handle, have those weapons, fire them (or) possess them in any way," Pierce County Sheriff's Detective Ed Troyer said, according to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution.

Smith pleaded guilty in 2009 for inappropriately touching a drunken 14-year-old girl in an Auburn parking lot. He also pleaded guilty to first-degree theft that same year for failing to pay for a motorcycle he bought, the News Tribune reported.

The "Doomsday Preppers" episode first aired Nov. 12 on the National Geographic Channel and officers in Pierce County, Wa., have been investigating the case since then.

“His stated plan was not to defend himself but to use weapons he illegally possessed, to rob his neighbors at gunpoint,” Sheriff Paul Pastor said, according to the Seattle Times. “Did he really think that this wouldn’t attract our attention?”

Smith was arrested Wednesday and booked on two counts of second-degree unlawful possession of a firearm, according to the Pierce County Sheriff’s Department.

At first, Smith tried to claim that the scenes showing him use a gun were filmed before the 2009 guilty pleas.

However, officers pointed out that Smith did not live at the property where the filming took place until recently, according to the News Tribune. The episode also showed Smith's wife as pregnant, which she wasn't in 2009.
