UK's Oldest Man Reveals His Secret To Long Life At Age 108

Probably not what the doctor ordered.

A greasy, English breakfast complete with fried eggs and sausages sounds more like an occasional indulgence than a prescription for long life, but for John Mansfield, it seems to be doing the trick. The 108-year-old ― believed to be the UK’s oldest male ― credits his longevity, in part, to his daily habit of a fry-up.

The centenarian has remained active his whole life, working as a farmer and living on his own until recently. The great-great-grandpa has always done manual labor and says staying on-the-go also has done wonders for him.

“The secret to getting to this age is work – it just keeps you going and I’ve never stopped,” Mansfield told The Derby Telegraph. “I would work 20 hours at a time. I never used to go to bed at night – I didn’t have time. I’ve really roughed it over the years.”

He also swears by drinking vinegar to fight off illnesses, saying he’s even applied it to aches and pains to get some relief.

Mansfield, who turns 109 in December, also likes to enjoy a weekly lager, his children say.

We’re not sure vinegar, fried foods and beer are the secret to longevity but they sure seem to be keeping him happy.

Then again, plenty of centenarians have surprised us over the years with their so-called longevity habits which have ranged from eating McDonald’s daily to staying away from men.
