'Unbaby.Me' Chrome Extension Replaces Facebook Infant Photos With 'Awesome Stuff'

It began, like so many great ideas do, with a few friends laughing over beers.

"The three of us were just hanging out," Chris Baker, a 29-year-old from New York City, told The Huffington Post. "Somehow the topic got to how intolerable Facebook has grown because of the baby pictures" on everyone's profiles.

Fed up with the infant picture overload, Baker and his two friends Peter Marquis and Yvonne Cheng, who are all in their late 20s, decided to hire a programmer to de-baby their Facebook space.

The result? A browser extension called unbaby.me.

"For our age group, it's a problem that's a year or two old, and it's just getting worse and worse," Baker told HuffPost. "We just realized, if it was a problem for us three, it was probably a problem for 3,000."

The extension, which is designed for Chrome, operates on a simple concept: replace any and all baby pictures on Facebook with "awesome stuff." After installing the program, users simply need to refresh their Facebook feed, and -- voila! -- no more babies.

Currently, the default setting changes baby photos to images of cats. But if users prefer to see, say, adorable baby sloth photos, they can easily modify the settings by pulling images from the RSS feeds of services such as Reddit.

Unbaby.me received 2,000 likes in its first 30 minutes Wednesday afternoon, according to Mashable, and currently has close to 26,000. The reaction, Baker said, has quite simply been crazy.

"I've done some other viral things, like the World's Most Exclusive Website, and this one has completely surpassed with them," he said. "On Twitter people were saying we just fixed the Internet."

The code is now available for free download on the unbaby.me website so that people can customize it to do what they want.

"I think maybe someone should create something to get rid with motivational quotes," Baker said, laughing. "I don't know what it is about them, but they really just get under my skin."
