These Underwater Trash-The-Dress Photos Will Take Your Breath Away

Can't stop oohing and ahhing.

Sure, trash the dress shoots can be controversial, but that doesn’t mean they’re any less beautiful.

No one knows that to be true more than Pierre Violle, a Mexico-based photographer who studied photo journalism in Paris and began shooting underwater wedding photos in 2006. Equipped with a love of photography and diving, he combined his two passions into one business, Pierre Visual Studio.

Violle, who has photographed over 200 underwater sessions with people of all ages and stages of life, brings clients to pools, the ocean and most notably cenotes: natural sinkholes that are abundant in Mexico and boast “natural, wild beauty,” Violle explained to The Huffington Post.

Sessions typically last between 5-7 hours, with much of the time spent out of the water. Violle told The Huffington Post that he spends time finding the right lighting, getting to know his subjects’ personalities and giving them time to get acclimated to being in front of the camera.

“As they are not professional models, they need time to forget the cameras and feel more relaxed. Often, we get the best photos at the end of the session, when they have forgotten the photographers and just have fun,” he said.

Because of lighting concerns, sessions can start very early in the morning. "They're not for the late riser," Violle told The Huffington Post.
