University Of Colorado Boulder Athletes Want More Money; NCAA Plans To Discuss Athlete Compensation

Should College Athletes Get Paid For Play?

University of Colorado football player Ryan Miller says after his rent and utility bills are paid for the month, he has about $200 of his scholarship stipend remaining for food and other expenses.

The 6-foot 8-inch-tall, 310-pound offensive lineman buys his groceries in bulk and eats once a day at the Dal Ward Athletic Center. His budget is tight, he said, but he makes it work. Miller, from Littleton, sympathizes with his out-of-state teammates who have to stretch their stipends even further to pay for flights home.

"I think we should be compensated a little bit more," Miller said. "I'm not saying that we need anything outrageous, like new cars. But it'd be nice to be able to go to the movies on the weekend."
