So the day finally came.
Last year I remember nurturing an idea that I published in my blog Ajiacomix and in the Huffington Post (http://www.huffingtonpost.com/margaritta-alarcon/step-by-step_2_b_8339920.html) and was picked up on the site End the Travel Ban.
The premise was proving that the forefathers had it right when they established a clear separation of the three powers in the land: executive, legislative and judicial.
He didn't do it last year. He did it on Wednesday, October 26th, 2016. He did it on the last day he would be acting president during this particular vote.
Skeptics are already rationalizing and trying to find all sorts of "reasons" why he has done this now. I am not a skeptic, I truly believe in this man´s course of action and how he plays at the game of politics.
For the first time in 24 years the United States didn't simply speak from its seat at the GA with blatant disregard to what it already knew was going to be a landslide vote in favor of the Cuban resolution, this time, the US sent one of its Ambassadors up to the podium to speak; right before Cuba´s Foreign Minister. Ambassador Samantha Power gave an emotional speech where she spoke in depth about the advantages of our two countries working together and where she praised publicly Cuba´s effort in the world arena of health care, specifically in the fight against the Ebola Virus outbreak in Africa. Her speech brought cheers and great applause and also earned her sincere appreciation from Cuba.
This is not politics as usual; this is the first of many more baby steps needed to finally get the Cuba US train rolling on the right track. And President Barack Obama is the one responsible.
Now the battle is between the rest of the world, including the US executive power on the one side and its legislative branch, the US Congress on the other. Now is when things are both metaphorically and literally necessarily going to be going up Hill, finally.
